$6 Million Awarded Since 1990
Circa 1990 (and not unlike today), LISD Administrators were facing the challenge of financing quality, public education. So with the efforts of a core group of concerned citizens and key district personnel, the idea for an education foundation to support LISD was born.
After extensive research by Dr. Janet Luttrell, who would become LEF’s first Executive Director, the education foundation concept was presented to LISD’s Board of Trustees where it received unanimous support. In 1990, the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation was established as a public, non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax status and kicked off its Founding Donor Campaign raising 50% of its goal in just two months.
In 1990, then LISD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Michael Killian commented, “The Lewisville ISD Education Foundation is designed to promote [LISD’s pursuit] of quality education at . . . [a level] that we just can’t [financially] do [on our own].”
Mission
The Lewisville ISD Education Foundation exists to enrich the quality of public education in the thirteen communities served by the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) and serves as a vehicle for securing private funding benefiting LISD teachers and students.
