The Honor of Being Recognized: Peighton Kruzel’s Story

Peighton Kruzel is a 2024 graduate of Flower Mound High School and recipient of the Kyle Tilley Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a varsity swimmer or water polo athlete committed to continuing their sport at the collegiate level. Now a student at Washington and Lee University, Peighton reflects on the honor of receiving an LEF memorial scholarship and what it meant to be recognized alongside so many hardworking and accomplished students.

"Being a part of the LEF scholarship meant being involved in something that was much larger than myself. Being at a 6A school, it is not an easy task to receive recognition, much less scholarship. I received a memorial scholarship, and I was so honored to be thought of as someone who resembles the standards and values on behalf of the memorial. More generally, I was also honored to be with all of the students up on that stage receiving scholarship. I knew all of the students, worked so hard to get there, and were going to do amazing things after high school. Receiving an LEF Memorial Scholarship is such a high honor, and something I will never take for granted."
