The Lewisville Education Foundation (LEF) has established a new Teacher Certification Reimbursement Fund designed to ease the financial burden on Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) educators seeking to obtain or expand their professional teaching certifications.
Home to nearly 4,000 credentialed educators, Lewisville ISD recognizes that earning and maintaining Texas teacher certifications requires significant dedication, preparation, and financial investment. As state requirements evolve and classroom needs change, educators must continually expand their qualifications to better serve their students.
LISD has long demonstrated its commitment to professional development through comprehensive new-teacher training, ongoing educational support, and mentoring programs led by experienced educators. However, the out-of-pocket expenses associated with teacher certification have remained a challenge for many employees.
Certification examination fees typically range from $116 to $178 per exam, with some certifications requiring multiple examinations. An additional $78 application fee is required to add a certification to an existing Texas teaching certificate. Consequently, educators may face expenses ranging from approximately $200 to $680 or more, depending on their certification requirements.
Recognizing this need, the Lewisville Education Foundation stepped forward with a new initiative that provides direct financial assistance to LISD employees pursuing additional professional credentials.
Initial funding for the program was made possible through LEF's "Fund a Dream" campaign, launched during the Foundation's annual Gala in February 2026. The campaign provides donors with an opportunity to support meaningful initiatives that address specific needs within Lewisville ISD. By directing these contributions toward teacher certification assistance, LEF is turning donor generosity into immediate, tangible support for district educators.
Through the reimbursement fund, eligible educators will be able to recover qualifying expenses associated with certification examinations and application fees. The program will be administered in partnership with LISD's Human Resources Certification Team, which oversees employee credentials throughout the district.
The district is preparing to launch the application process, with reimbursements awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to program eligibility requirements and available funding.
During the 2025–2026 school year alone, several hundred LISD teachers pursued certification opportunities, demonstrating both the demand for professional advancement and the potential impact of this new initiative.
Beyond helping teachers offset expenses, the program represents a direct investment in the quality of education throughout Lewisville ISD. Additional certifications allow educators to expand their expertise, respond to changing classroom needs, and create new opportunities for student success.
The initiative also reflects LEF's expanding commitment to finding innovative ways to support LISD employees and students. In addition to its longstanding scholarship and grant programs, the Foundation continues to develop targeted impact initiatives that address specific needs across the district.
By removing financial barriers to professional growth, the Lewisville Education Foundation and Lewisville ISD are working together to strengthen the district's teaching workforce and support the educators who make a difference in students' lives every day.
