In Memory of Raymond L. Crawford, Jr.

RAYMOND L. CRAWFORD, JR of Denton, TX was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday, January 17, 2022. He was born February 1, 1940, in Lewisville, TX.  He was proud to be a native Texan and a native of Denton County. He attended Lewisville High School where he served as President of his graduating class of 1958 and lettered in all four sports; going to state in track. In 1988 he was inducted into the Lewisville High School Hall of Fame.

R.L. attended University of North Texas, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. While at UNT he taught Probability and Statistic as a teaching assistant, and he was a member and President of the Geezles Fraternity. After graduation he continued leadership roles at UNT serving as UNT Board of Regents and member and Chairman of the UNT Foundation. R.L. joined Northwestern Mutual in 1963 and enjoyed a long successful career of 58 years. He was dedicated to excellence both professionally and personally. He firmly believed in giving his very best to his family, his hometown, UNT, Northwestern Mutual and his clients. In 1983 he was recognized as one of the top 20 Northwestern Mutual salesmen in the nation. He achieved Lifetime Membership in the Million Dollar Round Table.

R.L. was a member of three institutions that influenced his life. As young boy he was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Lewisville, he was an eager Boy Scout and as a young man he became a Rotarian. He dedicated his life to carrying out the creeds of these organizations. R.L. is a lifetime member of the Dallas United Way, past Chairman of Medical City Lewisville, past President of Greater Lewisville Chamber of Commerce, past President of Lewisville Rotary Club, past chairman of Lewisville Cultural Arts Council and was named Lewisville’s “Citizen of the Year” in 1983. R.L. continued his service in Rotary, Serve Denton and the UNT Foundation until his death.

R.L. and Brenda met at UNT and married in 1963. They became the proud parents of two sons, Trey and Guy who are also UNT Alumni.  R.L. was preceded in death by his much-loved grandparents, Fred and Jewis Crawford, his parents, Raymond and Maxine Crawford and his brother Jerry John Crawford. He is survived by his wife Brenda, sons Trey and Guy, cousins, David Glasscock and Charles Emery, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
