LEF Celebrates 20 Years!

This year marks a major milestone for the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation because in 2010, we turn 20!  With the concept first discussed in the lobby of the North Texas Bank in Lewisville, the idea for an education foundation to support LISD students and teachers was born.  And after extensive research by Dr. Janet Luttrell, who would become LEF's first Executive Director and serve for 14 years, the education foundation concept was presented to the LISD Board of Trustees in December 1989 where it received unanimous approval.  In 1990, the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation was established as a public, non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax status and kicked off a Founding Donor Campaign that raised $100,000!   In looking back over the past 20 years, LEF celebrates its rich legacy of support for educational excellence.  Those "first steps" taken by LEF's founding board and donors provided a tradition of support and excellence that continues today.

Some of LEF's "firsts" include:

  • First Education Foundation formed in Denton County
  • First Donor - Chuck Carlson
  • First Grant Recipient - Meredith Gregory
  • First Estate Plan - Ted Barnes
  • First Recipient of the Ted Barnes Award of Excellence - Sally Squibb-Tate
  • First Board of Directors - Click Here to Link to the List!
